I am playing with my new Nikon D80, trying to use the camera as a master flash, and an SB600 as an off-camera flash. By reading the manual, it appears that the master flash (camera's built in flash) can be set so that only the off camera light is captured. However, by setting the master flash setting to "_ _" as stated in the manual, I still get the master flash in my picture. How can I set the camera so that I loose the fill flash from the camera?

Strange.....it should be working for you.....I shoot this way quite a bit...and you sound like you are doing everything right....Are you hitting "OK" after you set it all up?? |

Thanks for replying littleMick. It seems a bit quiet in here lately.
Yes. I'm definitely hitting the "OK". When set up, the on-camera flash appears to not be captured. However, I was after a look where the subject was lit from behind (in silhouette) when I discovered that the on-camera flash is throwing some light on the subject. I've found that if I cover the flash with my hand, all is ok. Surely there is a better way?
Looks like I'm going to have to go back to the dealer with this one.
Also, does the master flash have to fire a pre-flash? It makes it very difficult to use optical slaves without 'flagging' the on-camera. |
