Hello. I just got back from honeymoon with rented Canon 40D. I plugged into my macintosh and it immediately recognized the camera. However it is only importing half or less of the images. The other images I get errors on. I believe it is referencing .CR2 in the file name, whereas the ones that come in have .JPG in the file name. I think I shot in all RAW format. Which on my Nikon was .NEF. Anyway, I will be very bummed if I have lost these images. Any suggestions? I have been to Canon site looking for downloads for drivers and what not, but didn't really see much. I have to send the camera back to rental shop tomorrow and looking to solve before I do. Thanks! |

I checked a bit further, and appears when I had camera set on Av mode, the format was raw, but when I was on Portrait or Landscape modes, the format was jpg. I don't know why it switched.
I did find help on this on the Canon site, kind of. Canon says the Raw format is not support my the Mac OS yet and suggests downloading File Viewer Utility or ImageBrowser from 'the list above'. However that list above says only 'coming soon', so it appears I am SOL with this set up.
I do need to return this camera to where I rented it and would love to get these images off the card before I do. Any suggestions? |

Processing a RAW file can be accomplished any number of ways as long as you have the data. Getting the images downloaded and saved to your media is priority one. If you have a card reader, plug in the card and do a direct transfer of the files instead of relying on the camera to process them. You may have to find a non-Mac buddy to help out if the camera shop won't do it for you.

I did get the images downloaded to a windows computer. Data is safe and secure on that computer and on my flash cards. I still can't read the images though. I need the software, and the Canon web site doesn't offer it for download. Any thoughts on where I can get it? Anyone willing to email it to me or post it to my ftp site? |

I know that Adobe makes a RAW converter. I used to use it before Adobe started to support .NEF files. It worked very well. It is a free download and might be worth a shot. http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3645 This is the site and it changes the files to .dng. There also is a link on the page to see a list of cameras supported. I would check that out as well. |
