Hello. I just got back from honeymoon with rented Canon 40D. I plugged into my macintosh and it immediately recognized the camera. However it is only importing half or less of the images. The other images I get errors on. I believe it is referencing .CR2 in the file name, whereas the ones that come in have .JPG in the file name. I think I shot in all RAW format. Which on my Nikon was .NEF. Anyway, I will be very bummed if I have lost these images. Any suggestions? I have been to Canon site looking for downloads for drivers and what not, but didn't really see much. I have to send the camera back to rental shop tomorrow and looking to solve before I do. Thanks!

I'll be curious as to what you find out, and I hope your photos are not lost. What Mac do you have? What operating system are you running? Do you have iPhoto? What version? If so, did you load your photos to iPhoto or to the software that came with your rental camera? What is the software that you installed? Is it compatible with your Mac? I know...a lot of questions, but usually my Mac is more intuitive than my PC when it comes to photos.

Try installing the canon camera software and the updates from canon's website, assuming the rental agency gave you the software CDs.

If you are downloading into Iphoto, make sure you have the proram updated to reconize .cr2 photos. Check the Iphoto web site and/or Canon's website

.CR2 files are indeed Canon RAW files and you will need the software or plug-in to process those. Don't worry, it doesn't sound like anythingis lost - its just your software IMHO:)
