Hey all,
Im looking to get some new gear for my SB800 but am still tossing up between a soft box or an umbrella! Any suggestions on what I will get more use or better results from?
Also, I am sick of using IR to fire my flash remotely because the on camera flash fires as well. Transmitters seem pretty steep but can you get any decent sized sync cables?

Cheers
Benen

It sounds like you are ready to discover www.strobist.com. He would recommend the shoot thru umbrella.

As for triggering the flash, check out the wireless triggers from the eBay seller Gadget Infinity. You can also get them from www.MPEX.com. They have worked really well on my SB600.

I just orderered a set from gadget infinity :) i've read through strobist.com many times but am still undecided as to what i am after. I've chatted to a few people and am now seriously considering building myself a diffusion panel from pvc and a nylon sheet and just going after some reflectors or something. Still tossing up ideas though :)

cheers

I have one of the convertable umbrellas in case I want to shoot through or bounce. The umbrella setup is fast and very portable. But the Light panel setup would be nice to have at home.

Get yourself one of the Rosco gel sample packs as well so you can play with the color effects as well. I just ordered the Elinchrome Skyport triggers and added three of those sample packs to my B&H order. They were only $0.01 each.

I ended up getting a manfrotto light stand and a silver/white bowens brolli. Had a quick play but cant wait to fiddle when i get more time! They had no reflectors in stock but they should be coming soon.
