Yes you can

You can take it to a camera shop and pay for them to clean it (this is recommended if you are not confident in carrying out the clean yourself)

You can open the shutter using mirror lock up in your menu and to blow the CCD out first with a blower, if that fails you can use a proprietory sensor cleaning device..

This being said I am no expert this is just what I have picked up/read on the forum. I am waiting for dust to get worse on my D50 before I attempt to clean it, I have a sensor cleaning brush to try out. As I said earlier if in doubt taking it in to a camera shop to get it cleaned professionally is problably the safest option.

For anyone else thinking about this, go to www.visibledust.com. B&H also sells this device. The camera shops here want 75.00 to clean the sensor, plus they keep it for at least two weeks. This brush works good.

I use the Visible Dust brushes. They work very well. Once a year, however, I have it cleaned by a factory authorized repair center. I happen to have one in Miami so I'm good. He charges $45 to do it. Well worth it.
