I am going to buy an external monitor to attach to my laptop when I'm editing my photos. I want something at least 19 inches, larger if I can afford it. I don't know if I want wide screen or not. What features should I look for? Does the response speed and that kind of thing really matter?

I don't think it matters too much. I'm using a dual display right now with two different monitors. The one with the ridiculously high contrast ratio and brightness is good for seeing things that I can't detect on my other monitor in an image. However, its the other monitor that I do most of my edits on because its closest to what the image looks like printed or displayed correctly.

If you want professional results, you should make sure you have some calibration tool to set the colors correctly on your monitor. Something like the Spyder2 is affordable and effective. With a calibration tool, most monitors will work fine.

You don't need a fast response time unless you watch videos or play video games. Most LCD monitors are fast enough for that now anyways.

Newegg is a good place to shop
I also buy from
Tigerdirect.com
MWave.com
zipzoomfly.com

Sometimes you find some nice refurbished hardware at Tigerdirect.

If you know exactly what you want, pricegrabber.com can be useful too.

Hope this helps some.

Yes LCD will fits your needs. I've used a couple of LCDs but I have some bad experiences with fujitsu siemens. But LG has some pretty good models.
