I have a nikon D70s and have been getting asked to do a fair amount of weddings by friends...I am enjoying it and would like to invest in some good glass for weddings/ portraits. Any suggestion? Also the last wedding I was at I found my batteries Duracell died quite quickly in my SB600 luckily the timing was right...what batteries do you all use and is there any other power source or extra battery packs that can be used on an SB600?

I've been using the optika batteries and having good luck with them.
But I'm a believer in simply having plenty of extras, along with a charger in my vehicle with spares at the ready.

This with an SB800

Here's a link to a previous discussion of batteries for flashes. http://www.phototakers.com/forum/ftopic70112.html?highlight=sb800+batteries

As far as lens that are good for both portrait and weddings, you want something with a fast aperture and good quality glass. I use a Nikon 28-70mm 2.8, and a Nikon 70-200mm 2.8, with these two lens you have a wide focal range covered.

One of the best if not the best portrait lens is the Nikon 85mm 1.4, I don't own one, but it's well known for it's superior quality.

A good prime lens, for both portrait and weddings would be a 50mm 1.4. I prefer to shoot with a zoom for weddings, much easier and convenient for the fast pace.

That 18-70mm you have is a nice lens, it's just a little slow for low light situations and might cause you trouble if you are shooting a wedding in a dimly lite church or reception hall.
