Im thinking about upgrading my Nikon D70. Ive had it since a week after they came out, and am now interested in gaining more Mega Pixels due to my interest in macro photography and croping. Been looking at the D200 as now in the UK you can pick up the body only for around £800. Is this worth an upgrade or is it worth waiting for any new models that are due out? I dont even know if there are any due out. But the D200 has been around a while now.

Thanks for your help

From what I have read elsewhere on the internet, the consensus is that the D2X will be replaced before the D200.
What is it about the D200 that you desire that the D80 does not have. If nothing significant comes to mind then getting a D80 will save a few bob towards some nice glass,

The offer of £200 is OK if it 's from a shop like LCE and is a P/X. It's not good and I would expect to get some sweetener with the transaction, such as a 4gb Sandisk Extreme III.

If the offer is from a private buyer then I think it is a bit low and you should be looking more for £300.

Hope that helps.

Hi thanks for the replies. The sale would have been private. I didnt think it was a bad price as i have only seen the bodys sell on Ebay for £170-250.

Might take it to a shop and see what they offer.

From what I have seen generally of the market.
If a private buyer will pay £100 then you will probably get £80 on eBay and £60 from LCE with them selling it for £130-140 possibly discounting by 10%.

I have seen D70's going of £350-400 in LCE and that is what I was basing my figures on. If you have seen £250 on eBay then that is about right and your Private buyer should be in the range £250-£300.

It might be worth your while going and chatting to LCE with a PX and a bit of discount you may do quite well.

Good Luck

Why don't you wait for D300 (about £1200). It's a little bit expensive but much more better!

I don't think the D300 is worth the extra over the D200 at the current difference.
Particularly as I suspect he D200 will get discounted soon.

Some photographer swears to D80 but I have a very good experiences with D200, so I think you will be happy with D200 after D70.

the D300 is not worth the difference in price, unless you want to shoot using your lcd screen :0 then it is not worth it. I went from the d70s to the d200 and I could not be happier.

Opinion......I'd blindly pick the D300 over the D200. No question. For one you gain a better shutter mechanism, better AF, new CPU which equates to processing speed and a 100% viewfinder. Heck as a macro photographer, that alone would make the D300 a no brainer.

luisv is right imo.
I have d70, d70s, d200.
The only reason I havent pre-ordered the d300 is i havent figured out where, how to steal (arrange) for the money to buy the thing.

Direct comparison of the stats and seeing some of the example shots from the d300 clinches the deal for me.

I'll have one. I just might have to wait a while :)
