The 50mm 1.8 one of the next two lenses on my wish list. I can pick up a MkII brand new for about £70-75, cheaper maybe if I shop around more.
Would I be better of trying to find a second hand MkI? They seem to sell for the same price if not more than a new MkII on ebay. Is there a reason for this? I can see the MkI has a metal mount, but do the differences stop there? Optically is there anything to choose between the two?
Thanks in advance for any help. |

I think the MK I also has a distance scale or DOF scale - can't remember. I have had the MK II for a few years now - and while the build is cheap, the glass is great, and if you treat your equipment well it should last.
That being said, many people view this lens as almost 'disposable' because of the price. If you are making $ with the equipment, it is a very inexpensive lens that can eaily be replaced for little cost (compared with most other lenses) |
