I can't afford the Macro lens I want right now, so I have been considering one of these.

Other than cost, there doesn't seem to be much difference between them. What advantages if any do either have?

Generally one would expect that an extension tube would produce better results than a front mounted diopter lens.
It does depend on what lens(es) you have as to how much effect either would have.
