I photograph a lot of car shows, and I am the official photographer for a car club here in Colorado. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any tips/techniques they'd be willing to share with me on photographing car shows? I've gotten some shots I like, and others I really don't, and I just don't know anymore what to do to get better. The president of this car club, whom I know which is how I became the "official photographer" loves my shots, and me not so much. Thanks for the help!

Hi there....I'm also the "Official Photographer" for our car club here in Nova Scotia......the tips I would have for you are the following:

1) wide angle lens

This lets you get in close, avoid distracting backgrounds, and still get the whole vehicle

2) circular polarizer

This will take the nasty glare of the windows

3) Slow shutter speed

This will detract from all of the people milling about

4) Fill flash

Especially helpful on really bright, sunny days

I actually have a couple of articles on this subject. We just published one this week and we have another coming in a few days.

I'm actually a fan of using a linear polarizer rather than the circular ones....but, I do not use AF cameras either....

One drawback to the circular polarizer is you do not get a consistent effect over the entire image, rather the polarization only shows up where the circular patterns falls in line....leaving 2 quadrants without polarization.
