What I like to do is look at other people's shots, but still do my own thing, it inspires me. If that makes sense. |

Comfort of your subjects along with composition seems to work for me. Small children seem to do better leaning into a parent as opposed to standing/sitting alone. However, every family is different. I'm picturing a portrait of a small family. Larger families I treat like sports teams. Row1, Row2, etc... |

It depends on how many people are in the family.
I recently did a group of 9. Grandparents as one group, one son/wife & child as another group, then second son/wife & children as a third group. Then I made diamonds or triangles with all their faces.
There are some great posing books out there. One by Mark Cleghorn is quite good. |
