The red one, that is.
Can't wait to go out looking for nice vantage points on lakes and stuff (ie, away from the road!). |

Ah this brings up a point I was about to post. When canooing and photographing, what exactly do you stow your stuff in? I have a trip planned it about a month and i was debating on what I should get. |

I have no idea; this is the first canoe I've ever been in that wasn't a 700 lb aluminum rental barge. I'd assume a drybag of some kind though.
I used a standard canvas/whatever drybag with my DSLR once on a waterfall tour and had no problems. I'm not sure how they fare during a capsize, but under these waterfalls it worked fine. |

Yeah, and it's a relatively small canoe too (15'9"). I stayed short because of the car & the size of my garage, but looking at it now I could have gone to a 17' canoe without a problem. |

I guess you could also find some kind of waterproof plastic case (pelican maybe). |

Yea i was thinking about some army surplus type of box. Those are waterproof but the only thing is that i dont know how many compartments/secure they are. i really dont want my gear flopping around, wether its dry or not ;o. |

The pelican brand ones come with foam inside, I think, which you can cut compartments into to fit your gear. If you got an army surplus one or something (probably a lot cheaper) you could probably fit a block of foam into it. |

Ah yes i saw those pelican brand cases recently. i didnt really but 2 and 2 together noticing that the foam was very tight and i didnt figure if i could put anything in there at all.. anyway im going to do some research and look for an army surplus store.. then all i need is some decent foam. |

Walter,
Nice thing about that combo is you can just flip it upside down when you put in and take the car with you. That way you don't have to shuttle the car downstream to the take out!
Zach,
I use the standard dry bag in my kayaks to haul my gear. I've got a Tamrac Expedition 3 backpack camera bag that I put into a dry bag that is approx. twice as large as the camera bag. I also pack a couple of terry cloth beach towels in on top of the camera bag. The towels are handy for lying on for taking low angle shots and for setting the camera bag and/or equipment on to keep them out of the dirt, sand, etc. The towels also add airspace to help the bag float if you tip. If you use a dry bag buy the good ones and pack the heavy stuff(camera bag) at the bottom and the towels up top. This keeps the top floating up out of the water.

An idea for keeping equiptment dry while on water. Stop by an outdoor sporting goods store like cabelas and look in there boating section and tackle boxes you should be able to find quite a few water proof containers, some that might even float. Remember what ever you take keep it tethered to your boat. |
