Hey im looking at Buying a 30D next month with the 24-105mm f/4 IS USM Lens.
Alot of the photography i prefer to do is up close so i feel that lens will cover most of the stuff i want to do but as this is going to cost me $3500 AUD im just wanting to hear peoples opinions on the set.
Im also looking at the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM for sports photography is it worth the extra $2800. |

I have the 30D and 24-105L lens and it's wonderful. You won't regret that lens.
I have to wonder if the 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM is going to be a fast enough lens for you? 4.5/5.6 might give you some limitations if the lighting conditions aren't great. You will never regret an image stabilized lens but I definitely think you should do some extensive research on the 100-400 because I'm guessing that bythe time you get zoomed to 300mm you are going to be at 5.6. If that works for the types of sports you are doing then you will be ok.
Good luck and congratulations on your new purchase. ;)

Thanks for your Reply Shuttermom yeah that lens is a bit short on the F stops but as most of my sports stuff us Cycling it is normally in the middle of the day in good bright light but i have had a change of heart on the Lens choices to try and drop the cost and save a few cents to take my missus on a holiday.
The local Camera shop guy said the 17-85 IS USM lens is a good choice for the closer stuff and the 70-300 IS USM would cover most of my sports stuff.
But i am looking at some of the L Series lens in the longer focal lengths just for the fast F stops. |
