Hi there. I'm about to spend what is an insane amount of money (for me) on a Pentax k110d. . .
Right now they are at a very low price with the kit lens.
What I want to know roughly, is how long on average these cameras last? I just got through putting over 20000 shots on a canon a540. . . it still works fine. However, I would want this camera to last possibly for years and years. . .
What are your thoughts.
Yes, I know 400$ is not much to alot of you - but it is for me and my circumstance. . .
I have held the pentax and played with it - and I do like all of that - however, price is my main deal now :) |

After a quick Google, there is not first hand information from Pentax themselves, but there are bits of second hand information that say the shutter life is around 100,000 releases. I'd say that would be pretty optimistic and it would more likely be around 20-50k.
Try contacting Pentax, they might give you a more accurate figure.
Cheers

the K10D is rated to 100,000 clicks, not sure about the lesser models but I seem to recall 50,000. |

I'm not sure either, but my impression is that it would be on par or better than other entry level DSLR's. I have the DL (the older version of the 110) and it seems very well built in all areas. |

Yes, I would agree with at least 50,000, but probably more. It always depends on the kind of usage. I you fire away endless series at full speed, any shutter will die earlier. I you use it with less strain, it will work for longer. Anyway: if the shutter dies, but the electronics is still working nicely, you can have a shutter replaced/repaired.
I don't think, there is much different between all the entry modells, as shutters usually come from Seiko anyway.
regards
