Hello, people, I need your advice. I’m thinking to take a photography class. And I would like to hear your opinion about online photography courses. I came across some offers, but I have some doubts about the quality of education they give. I guess there might be people at this forum who attended online classes and can share their experience.

Well, actually I'm ready to take up longterm courses. What is important to me is that they should be of high quality, i mean i want to get some practical knowledge there.

I've read everything I can find on NYIP and all the reviews Google will spit out for me. I'm going to start the Professional Photography course with them in August. It's made to take anywhere from 1 to 3 years depending on how fast you want to work through the program. It costs around a grand to do the course, but if you ask for information, wait a couple of months, and they'll send you a coupon for 3-400 bones off! I've not really run across too many bad reviews of the course.

Another bit of advice I'd add is to get to know other local photographers in your area....and try to get any jobs you can assisting with them. Wedding photographers are usually the best in for this, but working with some fashion and product guys can be very informative too. This can be difficult depending on where you live......but you will learn volumes of practical knowledge working alongside seasoned preofessionals....(usually...lol)

That is very true. I struggle in that area though because my current job is so time consuming. Plus I can be in another part of the world at a moment's notice leaving said professional mentor high and dry. So, online courses are a better fit for me.

Ok, thanks guys! I still believe that online courses will suit me better, just because i don't have much free time and I work irregular hours. Though I completely agree with Fisheye that the most effective way to learn photography is to work with a professional photographer. Who knows, i can be lucky to find one in my area.)
