I almost never use mine, but that's mainly because I don't need its capabilities for the kinds of photos I like taking. It's a great lens - sharp, small, light, and the cheapest way to get an f/1.8 lens in canon mount. For the rare times I have needed it, it's been worth having.

It's a great way to show Mom you love her and display smarts. For the money and a little care using it, she (you) can't go wrong. Good Luck.

I love it! It is a great lens for the price, I use it a lot for portraits - its really sharp and the DoF it allows makes for great pictures.

It is also very handy for when there is little available light, I've used it at gigs and have been pleased with the results.
