How would I go about adding a simple border if PS CS2? Im sure it is easy, but I haven't a clue how to do it.

There are several ways to do this. I'm not sure I use the easiest one, but what I do is image>canvas size.

Then I decide how wide of border i want (in pixels) and select the color. Click "relative" box to ensure it's checked on.

You can go back and do another canvas size change to add to the previos one and get the matting look that way.

I'm hoping others will chime in so we can see how they do it too. I'm interested as well

That's the way I do it also... pretty simple actually and you can make it an action so you can just click the action and it will do all the steps automatically

You can also do it using the crop tool. Crop the entire pic, then drag the individual sides out OR crop the entire pic and hold down the ALT key and drag one corner out, it should drag it evenly on top, bottom and sides - then you can drag the bottom down to make it look like a polaroid - hit enter and there you have it.

Actions are easy. Simply open the Actions palette. Select the 'New Action' icon at the bottom of the palette, the icon that looks like a page with the corner turned up. When the new action dialog comes up give the action a name. Then hit the 'record' button. Then do all the things you want recorded. When done hit the 'stop' button on the actions palette and you are done.

What is the trick for making the border appear to have a drop shadow behind it?

There is a drop shadow action ("frames" collection) - it doesn't work the greatest on large images though.

You could always try Mikes Framer
