How accurate is manual focus confirmation, compared to auto focus mode.

I can't imagine why it would be any different.

It's as accurate as your eye can see. If you can see when you are in focus than MF is just as accurate, and more controllable, when compared to AF. I seldom use MF because of speed. I need really fast focus for birds. But when I shoot macro I often go MF.

AF used to be an "iffy" proposition in the olden days but modern cameras and lenses AF quite accurately and very quickly.

thanks mike, but my question was more about "focus confirmation" done in-camera in MF mode.

What I was getting at was if the lattitude of the MF confirmation was wider than the AF mode's confirmation.

as far as I'm aware the only difference between AF and Manual Focus Confirmation is who or what is moving the lens.

Certainly this seems to be the case with my Pentax bodies, I assume it is the same for all.

Even the really early MFC on my ME-F is very precise and it doesn't come any earlier than the first mass market AF SLR.

I have a bad eye, I mean not that bad but I could hardly manual focus without the split focusing screen so I rely on AF most of the time but if I'm shooting a close range even after the lens AF you can still over ride it to adjust manually to your preference
