I was digging around in the garage looking for my box of spring decorations and I found a hidden treasure. Tucked neatly in a corner, with several little boxes around it, is a beautiful box containing a brand new 70-200mm 2.8/L lens for my camera. I'm so excited I could pee... but need to contain that excitement. My hubby rocks! How did he know to get the 2.8 and not the 4.0? Now the question is....where did he purchase it? I hope not retail b/c it's gonna kill me to make him take it back and have to wait to order it from BHPhoto.

...assuming it's not for his mistress - presumably some early 20's "photography student" from the local art college. |

LOL, I'm guessing we men only spring for that kind of glass for ourselves or a true love, so I think she can rule out the 20 something student. Congrats shuttermom, I'm sure you'll put it to great use. |

You got that right!
Man, I wish my fiance would get me one. She probably doesn't know what to buy. We can't afford a lens like that right now anyway. Congrats. You better post some pictures now that you told us. |

It is and IS.... but sadly we are returning it to Tempe Camera today. I suspected that he had purchased from there and paid far more than he would had it been ordered from BH Photo... Hoping I don't have any struggles with the return.
It's a beauty of a lens! Can't wait to place my BH Photo order.
:)

Yes, Tempe Camera does tend to be a little on the high side when it comes to pricing.
You will love that lens. It's the one that I have on camera most of the time. |

What a great surprise. My sweetie always says she has not idea what to get me for gifts. This year I actually put together a wish list for her with a large range of prices and she was thrilled.
I think I'm pretty easy to buy for. What photographer does not have a ton of things he/she would like to have? |

He is obviously a keeper !
Having seen your earlyer shots here I'm thinking you'll now need to move outside :). With that focal length you'll sometimes want to 'reach out' a little to the swing set or lawn.

Yep my guy's a keeper.... but not because he got the lens. He's just such an awesome person! Anyway, the return process to Tempe Camera was a nightmare. We were missing a plastic bag that went around the lens case for the packing inside the box. 5% restocking fee. Took the lens home to search for the missing plastic bag. Found it. Fortunately the two plastic bags that surrounded the lens (one thin plastic, the other bubble wrap) had never been removed. It's definitely well packaged by Canon.
Returned to Tempe Camrea with the appropriate packing. Treated me like I was an idiot. Why in the world wouldn't I want that lens? Didn't I know it's the best lens in that category? Never dreamed I would return it. Wouldn't have sold it to my husband if they had known. They needed a detailed explanation for their return records. ??? How could I tell them that I can save 400$ by purchasing at BH?
As far as I'm concerned, Tempe Camera is a pro shop for amateurs who haven't done their homework. Won't be returning anytime soon.
Geez I hate making returns! |

Shuttermom17,
It's too bad you had to have such a bad experience with them. It's hard to know how places like this will stay in business with the internet around but I do but things at Tempe camera once in a while, usually just little things here and there just to try and stay in good with them because there may come a day when I need an emergency piece of equipment immediately and I might be more likely to pull in a favor with them. So I know a couple of them in there and they know me. So if I am ready to shoot a wedding and I need something in short notice I might be able to get it from them or they might be able to help me out.
Are you a member of the AzPPA (Arizona professional photographers of America) yet? If not you should come out to one of our meetings. The first one is free and it's a great way to network with other photographers. Let me know and I can get you more details if you are interested. |
