Has anyone tried using one of these, If so are they effective at extending the focal length of the lens and what effect (approx) does it have on the F stop
I am looking at this as a more inexpensive option of extending the zoom range on the lenses i have rather than pay out several hundred GBP to get different lenses |

I can not tell you the difference in F stop and I am not sure there is any. The extension tube does not have any glass in it.
You are looking in the right direction as the extension tube will work well with you 40-150. I know folk who shoot that combo with success. IMHO the extension tube does not work as well on the wide angle lenses as you have to be so close to you subject - on the 14-54mm the subject has to be almost touching the glass.
I use it with the 50-200 and there are some examples here.

Don't dismiss the 35mm Macro 3.5 either. It is no an expensive lens but it is a very good one. They are at about 200.00 I think. I picked a used one up for less then 100.00. Here are some images from the 35 MM -

There is a fundamental misunderstanding here the EX-25 is an extension tube not a tele-converter.
That said, the EX-25 will give an efective magnification when taking Macro or close-up photographs, simply by allowing the lens to focus closer.
You want the EC-14 teleconverter which multiplies the focal length by 1.4, so a 200mm lens becomes a 280mm it makes 1 stop difference, so used with the 50-200 f2.8/3.5 becomes 70-280mm f4/5.6.

After re-reading his post I see I did mis-understand as I thought he was talking about macro and close up shots. Whoops!
Thanks for chiming in there.
EC -14 converter probably takes a stop and a half or so. It is a good one thought and generally always on one of my E-1 bodies with the 50-200mm Zuiko ED |
