does anyone know what my problem could be? My contrasts are not right - and i think it is because im not using the right filter for the enlarger -

can someone explain to me enlarger filters - like the scale of 0-6 or something

I only have2.5, 3. and 3.5 -

If I knew how to post an image on this forum - I couldd show you the picture im talking about -

I got the picture printed by a photo center - and it came out better than mine - the contrast did -

if you let me know how to do that - I can post it so you guys can tell me how to fix it :) [/img]

ok here you go

00- its your ultra low contrast filter, u print with this filter when you need to burn in areas of bright highlight because it will produce gray values in area with no density. Unlike the 5 filter it will darken highlights, midtones and shadows

0- slightly more contrast than 00, 1 is more then 0 ect ect.

2 is a good filter to start with...it will give you an exceptable black and good grays if you have a good negative

2.5 is a bit more contrast

3-3.5 give a nice black with some loss of gray values

4-4.5 deep blacks, and darkening of dark gray, nothing under middle gray is touched

5 very deep blacks, no exposure to highlights and middle values

this is a rough guide..it depends on your negative
