I use my E 500 with a Promaster 5550 external digital flash and Olympus compatible module. Problem: when using auto mode, matrix metering and bounce flash indoors, I may get a two or three stop overexposure in a series with the same subject for no discernable reason. I have checked the details to confirm that I made no unnoticed changes. I can get more control using other modes, but I'm curious about the inconsistency in auto mode. Any thoughts or suggestions? |

Sorry that I could not give a good answer to your problem.
I don't use a Promaster though. I use FL-36 and have no problem on E-1 and I did not use it when I shot the e500.
I suggest you ask the same question here -

as there will be some that use that flash and E500 there. |

Thanks, I was just in the process of registering over there.
I did, however, recheck the manuals for the camera and flash, and did a little more testing. The manual warns that using "auto" can produce this problem. And it seems to recommend using manual mode with flashes other than Olympus brand. Since the unit I'm using is TTL digital with a dedicated module, it should communicate with the camera in the other modes. I'm still experimenting, and I'll try dpreview. Thanks again. |
