Pretty pose and a good chair to shoot him in.
I would move the chair some place where there is more light and near a window that faces north would be ideal. In any case, not direct sun light; but rather indirect light.
For the purposes of photography I think removing the collar is a good idea.
You missed on your focus with this and I think that the brighter location will resolve this issue too.
Don't be afraid to re-arrange furniture for shooting. Most chairs are easy to move. Most couches are not a chore with 2 people. Moving furniture is almost always needed when shooting indoors by available light. Most people don't do it; the professionals almost always do.
With a cat, I would put the chair in place a few hours in advance so she/he will be comfortable with the new location.
Good subject; I think you can do better. |

Thanks Packard,
He is always sitting/laying down in this chair, so I think getting another shot at this pose will not be a problem. I will re-shoot and re-submit.

I have taken a few shots with the advice received. I hope that I have done better. I took to portraits, and I liked them both equally, so I decided to post them both.

I really like the second one. Nice sharp focus on the eyes and nice lighting. |

Much better. Compare the eyes in these two shots with the eyes in the first one. These look much more lively.
The first one seems a bit soft, the second is good.
With cat and dog photos, the eyes must be in focus; with cats it is nice if the whiskers are sharp too. |
