Still convincing my wife to model for me again, but had no problem with her dad, another beer drinker you see. :)

Nice portrait. How big was the gobo?
The subject appears to be side lit and I'm wondering what your set up looks like. |

It was 90cm x 90cm, also their house was off to the left and is painted white, so I think it was reflecting some light. It was quite bright outside of the open shaded area. |

Nicely done. Notice how open and alive the eyes look. The light does not make the subject squint (good). It is soft and flattering and the lighting ratio is easy to manage.
What do you think of this lighting? What do you think of this portrait?
I think you should be able to talk you wife into a shot or two after she sees this one. |

Thanks Packard, My farther-in-law is very happy with his portrait, I think this lighting has been the nicest for portraits and my wife has agreed to sit for a shoot after seeing this.
Our friends that are here on holiday from Italy have also asked me to take portraits of their children (3 & 7) next week. |

Post your results. Let's see what you have learned. |

Hahahaha, also an inventive solution for a one man job. Those assignments do make one creative. |

An assistant is easier. But the results are worthy regardless.
(I am retired from this forum. Have they found a replacement yet?) |

Nope no replacement yet Packard not one that is obvious to me anyway. Still persevering with the assignments you've posted though until I've completed them all. |
