Hello folks. I have an E500 camera and have been attempting to photograph some eagles for the last three days. I'm using the 40-150mm lens. I'm using the SHQ setting 1/2.7 and the Sports mode.

The problem is that while the eagles are coming in fairly close to me and landing in trees not far away........the photos I'm taking are not coming out very clear or sharp and it appears that the lens is not zooming in on them as they are smaller in the photo than they should be. Also when the eagles are flying I'm getting motion blur. Between the time the lens focuses on them and the time I click the picture......the eagle has already flown out of the focal range.

Any ideas or tips I can use to resove these problems? Thanks in advance!

Hard to say much without seeing the image examples.

I see where you say you are using sports mode. My advice is get out of the pre-set modes. Use A, S, or M and experiment, experiment, experiment.
