Here is my review on the Murkery Innovations 350D battery grip sold at adorama.com.
So far I like the grip.
Pros: Cost is about 1/2 of the canon one. Looks exactly the same to me. I wouldn't know the difference visually. Appears to function flawlessly. After a longer period of time, I will reasses my review and let you know of my experience with reliability. The grip appears to be just as sturdy as the canon brand. All of the visual decals on this are identical to the cameras decals. The only visual difference between the canon one I can tell is the front of it doesn't say canon. There is no logo on the front.
Cons: If you can call it a con, the shutter button and the toggle wheel feel different than the actual cameras. The shutter button has a deeper fall to it and softer touch than the cameras, and I believe the canons grip. I didn't get to test the toggle on the canons brad grip, but the toggle has a very light click as you turn it, it does not have the solid rigid feel of the cameras toggle. Like I said if you can live with the difference in feel, than it wouldn't be a con.
My conclusion:
I think it is a great buy. Gives you a much sturdier hold of the camera, especially for big hands. It is very comfortable to hold and balances the camera nicely. The price break IMO is worth saving half over the difference in feel. If you are looking to a much closer feel to the camers controls, I suggest getting the canon grip. If you can get used to the difference, then I would definitely suggest getting this grip. Overall well worth it, and a good buy IMO. |

Thanks for the review. I am seriously thinking of getting this grip. The old Rebel XS had a nice grip that had a built in tripod and I miss that.
One thing you did not mention was the battery life. How does it compare to the original batter? |

A minor diversion here.
Eos was the Greek Goddess of the Dawn. She was apparently very beautiful and slept around a good bit.
So how do you combine the name of a slutty Greek Goddess with "Man" and come up with a name for these forums?
This has nothing to do with batteries, just curiosity.

I'm talking about my original OEM grip, which is probably about the same as these other brands (it's just a hunk of plastic with some buttons and simple wiring).

The battery is the same; you just insert it into the grip instead of the body. You can add a second battery if you want though, and this will extend life. I bought my grip for it's function as a portrait-orientation handle and shutter button, not a battery holder, and I don't use a second battery - just one. I find that with a single battery I have less battery life with the grip attached. I guess there's some resistance or something in the contacts and that either drains the battery, or tricks the battery power sensor, or both. Anyway, I find that if I run low I have to remove the grip and pop the battery straight into the camera and then it's good for a bunch more shots.
I plan to buy a second battery (actually probably a set of fresh ones) ASAP as I ran out of battery on a set of shots I had waited several hours this weekend. Never again! |

Packard - hmmm... well, I guess my intention was Canon EOS but having a slutty goddess would be a fantasy of mine too, so I guess it would work. |
