I need to buy a camera bag for my new Rebel XT. Does anyone have any suggestions of what to buy or what NOT to buy? I will want some extra room for lenses and a flash that I hope to purchase in the future but I don't want it to be huge. Because I am vertically challenged, I need the strap to either be short or adjustable. I want, I need.....I sound just like a woman, don't I! I will shut up now! Thanks!

I recently purchase the Canon 200DG SLR Camera bag for my Rebel XT. It provides for a lot of room with several dividers and zipper compartments, etc.. I purchased mine from Amazon.com for around $49.95 + plus shipping. That really isn't a bad deal.. Everywhere I saw it in retail stores, they wanted 59.99 + tax.
The dividers are made to where you can re-arrange them to make room for additional lenses, etc.. I wasn't sure if I was really going to like it at first, but I do now =)
Here is a link to it @ Amazon.com - Check It Out! |

I've recommended this before....and I'll recommend it forever. The LowePro Slingshot 200AW I love this bag. It's relatively small and lightweight yet holds all the gear you need for a daily excursion. It slings over your back, and also slides around your waist like a big ol belly bag. You can then rest your elbows on it to steady your shots.
Did I mention that I love this bag? |

That bag does look interesting.. I migh check into this.. Right now, I'm just shooting at indoor events, and I don't need something to put around my waist, so I'm good there.. But I do like the "sling shot" idea. |

Have to agree with boogieman here, LowePro camera bags are the best that money can buy in my opinion. I have a LowePro Dryzone 200. This superb bag is totally waterproof and durable as hell!
It holds:
-My Nikon D70 + 18-70mm lens
-Nikkor 70-300mm lens
-4 Filters
-Infra-red flash trigger
-Sekonic Light meter
-Tripod
Can't really recommend these bags highly enough, take a look for yourself here:

Guess it depends if you want waterproof and how much you want to spend. Personally I didn't really need anything waterproof but wanted rucksack style (two straps) for comfort and something which wasn't too blatently camerabag'esque - I.E please steel my £2k's worth of camera kit bag lol.
I went with a Hama Rucksack Camera Bag which I bought from 7dayshop. Very cheap, loads of rooms for camera, lenses, filters etc (I have 20D, 100-400, 18-55mm & 50mm lenses, filters, charger, spare battery and other bits in there) excellent value for money.
Here's a link - http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_1&products_id=6021
Might be worth reading the reviews, they aren't too bad ;)

Thanks for all of the advice everyone! The Hama Rucksack Camera Bag looks great but the website won't ship to the US so I will probably get the LowePro Dryzone 200.
Az,
Wouldn't you know that the camera bag that I like the most is from a website that won't ship to me!
If anyone else has advice to add, please do so! I won't order a bag for a few days.
Thanks!

I have a Domke bag (F-2)for the past 20 years and it looks like it will go another 20+. Great bag.
See: www.photographyreview.com/cat/camera-cases/soft-cases/domke/prd_84454_3124.crx.spx
Click "soft cases" there are many reviews.
I always carry an Igloo cooler in the car that is large enough to hold the Domke and more. If I leave the case in the car I put it in the cooler on the theory that thieves are not that interested in stealing ham and cheese sandwiches (or crumpets, if you prefer). It also protects the camera from heat.
I always carry the case inside the cooler when I bring it into a hotel for the same security reasons. Mine is large enough and strong enough to stand on and makes a good step stool in an emergency. |

I really like my Crumpler 15 Love bag. I'm vertically challenged, too, and the strap is adjustable. Right now it's a bit big and bulky for just the camera, kit lens, and 50mm lens, but it will easily fit another lens and flash and the rest of my stuff (batteries, charger, memory cards, lens cleaner, etc.). |

Hey Malissa, I actually have the Lowepro Dryzone 100 and NOT the 200. The reason I'm telling you this. is because the Dryzone 100 is smaller than the dryzone 200. However, my dryzone 100 is plenty big enough, so the dryzone 200 must be huge.
Here's a rundown of my Dryzone 100 specs
when fully packed:
Height: 17"
width: 12.5"
Depth: 7.5"
Weight: 7.3KG
Sorry for the mix up
