Carl Ziess is hinting that they will soon be releasing some new lenses using the Nikon F mount. If true this is tremendous news. The news is to be released on Jan 4th. |

$3000 or so, yeah.
I'm not sure that this quality is going to matter to on a reduced frame digital. Methinks they are thinking of 35mm film and full frame digital.

I cant remember if I was reading this on here or dpreview but it sounds like they are just putting "F"-mounts on the 35mm lenses. Someone even had a quote where they stated that in a more...eloquent way. |

So they'll be autofocus and communicate fully with the camera? That's pretty cool.
I've read a lot about the 21mm distagon and the 50mm planar being used with adapters for Canon, and the guy who runs Digital Grin contends that the Zeiss 21mm plus the Canon 5D (full frame) is the best wide-angle landscape combination possible with Canons. They'll certainly have a market among the Canon people too if they so desire and their Nikon arrangement isn't exclusive. |

that would be hard for the AF Camera Users cause they don't have the Circle thingy in the VF (you know those old manual camera that you need to align it to make sure your in focus)
Unless you have a 20 20 vision...
But it will be still difficult specially with people wearing Prescription Glass |

Diopter? My E-500 has one on there that brings the VF in and out of focus for that purpose. |

Just wait and see some comparisons before shelling it out, though. I've no doubt that the optics are cream of the crop, but most people wouldn't spend an extra $2k to split hairs. |

I just came across this informative interview on the ZF lenses.
Among the interesting tidbits:
* ship date: as early as May '06.
* the reason why the Zeiss lenses are not being introduced for the Canon EOS mount is apparently a patent issue.
* two more "mystery" ZF lenses (besides the 50 and 85) are apparently in the works. In the photo they seem to me to be roughly the size of a 105 and a 135, not longer.
