Happy Holidays to Everyone,
Santa was good to me, he gave me the Canon Rebel XT. I love it. But I really need to understand it better. The Canon book that came with it explains how, but not really why. Can anyone recommend a good book on digital photography for beginners? I have some experience but I feel I need to read more to better understand. I would love a book that explains all the terminology, the how's, why's and when's. I think it will help me put it all together when I'm reading the Canon book. Any suggestions or help me narrow down the search?
Thank You..... |

Fallbrook,
Welcome to the forum and Happy Holidays to you as well. Congrats on the new camera! I Santa brought me the XT this year as well!
As far as book reccomendations, I would take a look at; John Hedgecoes New Manual of Photography, Understanding Exposure, and National Geographic "Field Guides". They have several "Field Guides." One general one and then one for portraits, another for wildlife, etc.. They don't break the bank, but they are full of information to get you started! |

You can also go to Chapters, or alike, and get a book designed for Rebel XT. I saw it on Saturday there. It was around $20. Seemed to be a very uselful book with a lot of guides and examples on how to acomplish certain effects with the camera. |

thanks for the suggestions. i will definitely check out the Hedgecoes book. Chapters??? Is that the name of a camera store? If so, I got my camera at Ritz, I guess I will see if they have some good books also. I am signed up for classes at Ritz, but would like to get a jump start on my terminology. So much to learn...... |

John Hedgecoes New Manual of Photography is a very good book that breaks down the various topics in small mostly 2 page sections that make it easy to grasp the concepts. I also recommend Understanding Exposure as well. |

I went to the store yesterday to look at the books they sold that pertained to the Canon Rebel XT, or just general photography books, and I ended up buying a DVD from Canon that explains everything about the Rebel XT. While the DVD is very informative, there is a lot that is over my head. I plan on playing it over a few times until it sinks in.......I would recommend it to anyone who just received the camera and is in the dark, without a flash!
Happy Holidays |

While I haven't quite grasped everything yet, I have enjoyed reading Understanding Exposure. I think it's a well done book. |
