I’m trying to decide which camera to purchase.
So far I’m looking at Digital Rebel XT and D50 or maybe D70
I believe D50 is cheaper than Rebel.
Any suggestions?
Thank you! |

Yes, any eos lens will work with canon digital slrs. |

If you have the lenses then, id save yourself some money and stick to the canons. Althought the D70 is nice ;) |

What lenses do you have for the Canon?
I went from the Rebel G to the 300D, and was quite thankful to have a Sigma 75-300mm telephoto on the Rebel G. I did have to get it rechipped (for free) to be compatible with the 300D, but until I scrounged the money to get my expensive lenses it was nice to have that one.
Now the reason I ask is that if all you have on the Rebel 2000 is the kit lens that came with it, then the issue of keeping the lenses for the 350D is sort of moot -- you're basically starting from scratch. On the other hand it will give you a head start on expanding your lens repertoire if you stay within the Canon system.
Otherwise, let's not get into the fine details of Canon versus Nikon systems; it's really too subtle to get into the typical Phototakers debate over it. Either is fine (with the D70 and 350D being typically compared to one another, not the D50). |

I have had a Canon 300D digital slr for over a year now. When I came to choose my camera it was a very difficult choice as there so many on the market and so many differing opinions on them. I did a lot of research and decided on the Canon finally just because my personal preference it was easy to use and not too heavy. I still find myself learning new thing about it to this day and I do not regret my decision. But I do feel I have out grown it a bit and will think about upgrading maybe to the Canon 350D or may even be pursuaded to give Nikon a try.

I'm also a 300D user, and frankly if you have $1000 to spend on camera equipment it would be a very poor decision to use that to upgrade from the 300D to the 350D. Indeed the 350D is a newer camera with some nicer features, but the difference between it and the 300D is not worth $1000 of your hard earned money. You could get a couple sweet lenses for that cash. Believe me that whatever limitations you feel are affecting your photos will not be overcome merely by the differences between the 300 and 350D. Photography skills and optics are the most important factors by far. Unless you're going pro and need pro-caliber bodies, it makes much more sense to replace your camera body either a) when it breaks or b) in 3 or 4 years when the price will have plummeted on the professional level cameras, things that even now are more advanced than the 350D. I bet that in 2008 you'll be able to get a 1Ds Mark II for $2000 or $3000, and this is the top camera that Canon makes. |

Thank you so much for your advise. Yer I am in the uk so the Canon 300D was £1,000 but that included two lenses, wide angle and zoom. I was in some serious debt buying that. I know someone that does have the 350D and it's so much more light weight but I don't think I will be tempted as I dont see too many differences in the cameras. I do hope to go pro eventually and will wait for there to be a dip in price. Or come to America where I understand camera come alot cheaper which is nice.
:-)

Thanks for your help guys!
Actually I've read the other topic about Oly E-500. I know it's not even close to Canon, but it is cheaper, comes with 2 lens and probably not bad for a beginner. So it's between Oly and Canon... Decisions... decisions..
Btw the lens I have 35-80mm. |

I believe the Oly is what I will be getting soon enough. From dpreview I think it will take nature shots on par with a Canon. It is only when you get to ISO 800 and 1600 that things really get messed up. The two lens kit is going to be nice for a beginner in dSLR like myself. I plan on using this to hone in on my skills and get some really good shots. Few years down the road and if I feel like I have elevated my skills a bit I am going to upgrade to the camera of the time. But for a nice dSLR and two lenses that is 100 cheaper, as a beginner in dSLR I dont think I can do much better.
My $.02

Buy it through them you get a nice body, 2 lenses, and now you have a savings of $200 to buy another lens with. |

Touche, and we're using some pretty fantastic Zeiss immersion oil to look at our microscope slides, though it's a Nikon microscope. |

Latest rumours suggest that the successor to the 20D (30D?) will be officially unveiled at the PMA convention in February. Just rumours of course, but with the D200 now out there, the timing seems about right. Should definitely cause a 20D price drop. |
