i plan on getting the battery grip for my xt and also a flash. (probably the 420ex)

I think you will end up with more than one bag over time - I have :-)

I started with a Lowepro 500Aw then wanted a rucksack so I got a Rover AW II but this has ended up being to small after 6 months. I have now got a Nature Trekker AW II.

In reprospect I wish I had got the Nature Trekker and not the Rover AW II. At eh end of the day get a bigger bag than you think you need. You will eventually fill it with camera gear. If you dont fill it with camera gear you have room for your sandwiches ?

Good luck.

I had more trouble picking my bag than picking which dSLR I was going to buy. (No, I'm not kidding.)

I ended up taking all of my stuff to a local camera store and spent a little while packing bags, and unpacking bags. Lots of them.

In the end, I picked a bag that I had never touched (Lowepro Stealth Reporter). Go figure.

The lowepro site (http://www.lowepro.com) has a pretty large selection and decent photos of the bags - including diagrams.

I got the photo trekker AW II last week, bigger than the nature trekker which at first caused me some trepidation (it's pretty heavy) but I'm now very pleased with it, having gone out and used it a couple of times. Very convenient, and until I fill it with more gear there's room for an extra pull-over and a sandwich, etc.

It also comes with a strap-on mini backpack / daypack that fits nicely on the back of it, when I do have it full of gear and want to also carry food / clothes / etc.

I like to take a Coleman Cooler with me in the car and store all my stuff in the cooler. It doesn't look like a camera bag and does not invite thieves.

I also use a smaller one for carrying equipment into hotels.

I have a small bag for when I am actually shooting; a Domke, about 20 years of hard use and still standing up well.

In a pinch the coolers are strong enough to stand on if you need some extra height.

It also protects the equipment from excessive heat. Sturdy and cheap too.

I have a dryzone 200 and a couple smaller bags that dont see much use. The main benefit to the dryzone is it is completely waterproof, something I wanted in a backpack.

I do want to get a larger backpack, simple to carry more than one long lens and a couple wide angles along with more than one body....overkill yes, but there are times when I want to carry it all.
