Mind if I ask why this post is in the digital camera reviews forum? It's a film camera, isn't it? Basically a large format military recon camera, 9x18" or something like that. And they scan the film.

Uh-oh here comes the police...
sir yes sir Capt. keith
back to the topic... is that taken with a 4 gigapixel Camera or is it converted to digital from a medium or even LF Cameras? |
My understanding is that it is nothing more than a souped up, military-grade recon LF camera, and they scan the film.
Look, you can scan 8x10" LF film and get ~500 mp files. And that is real information. I get ~40mp from 6x6cm negatives, and those are tiny compared to 8x10".

still it just seems like some fun scientists are having, its the scientists like this that play around and tinker with random stuff that makes the crazy new inventions that were used to. large corporations and companies dont usually like to pour money into potentially dead ends. another reason why governments are good, especially during wartime when they have tons of money to through into dead end black projects.....but im rambling, its just a neat idea, maybe one day they will make an image sensor that could possible come close! |

As Keith and I can both attest, scientists can't just have fun with things like that. If you're a theoretical physicist or a mathematician perhaps you can if there are no materials and other research staff involved. But the operational and material research costs are gargantuan. There's no way to do it without either industry or government grant support (or some private foundation). Furthermore, there's no reward for it unless your development / invention is either published in a peer-reviewed journal or (if you're extraordinarily fortunate) patented and sold. |
