Much as I appreciate the efforts of the manufacturers to produce lower-priced DSLR's... I wish they'd stop making them in silver! |

You know it's cool that they keep making cheaper digital cameras but they also happen to be making BETTER cameras at the same time making cameras that we've only had for like a year on the verge of being obsolete. It's actually a little frusterating if you ask me.
So I couldn't really tell, is the D70 still a better camera?
All of these new cameras almost makes one long for the simplicity of film again. One camera good for ten years. Hmmm with a limited budget perhaps it's time to go back to film. :-) |

I can see constantly having to upgrade to the latest technology if you are a professional but even if you are a serious amature the current crop of DSLR's should be good enough to last anyone several years down the road. I really don't see the need to constantly "upgrade" to new cameras if the one you have is doing it's job. |

Sure but at some point the images you 'think' are good may not be as good as they could be. I guess the question comes up at one point does one decide ones kit is obsolete? If we don't upgrade everytime a new camera comes out under your chosen brand (that would be ridiculous) then at which point do we upgrade. For example, the original digital rebel is now what...two years old and Canon has come out with with 20D and now the 350 so at which point do you look at your two year old 300D with 4 or 5 thousand pictures on it and begin to wonder. Or the Nikon D100 users. I'm just sort of playing devils advocate. I do believe that if you have gotten a kit and purchased everything you needed at the time to run that kit (ie Computer, program, camera etc.) then you should be good...but if you wanna begin upgrading little pieces here and there like programs soon it'll be nessecary to replace the camera body. It is a viscious circle isn't it....and expensive. |

I had a look through one of these in Jessops a couple of weeks ago.
Are Nikon viewfinder images always that small? |

The D50 and D70 both have very small viewfinders. They are much better (bigger/brighter) on the D200 and the D2x |

I didn't realize how small until I dug out my Nikon N90s for some fun shots with film, just to do something different and the large viewfinder alone was almost enough to make me want to switch from digital to film. |

I'm glad to hear that, I had always thought that once Pentax finally dump SLRs (as I fear they are eventually going to :(:( ) I would switch to Nikon but I almost got claustrophobic looking throughthe D50 finder! My Pentax SFX is much nicer, but even that pales into insignificance vs my ME-F, looked through that for the first time in a while yesterday and almost fell in! |
