I upgraded my computer, so I backed up my Photoshop Organizer catalog (I was using version 4.0) and then after upgrading hardware, reformatting drive, etc., I installed Photoshop 5 and tried to restore the catalog. I have a Nikon D70 and store all my images as raw. Well, it all worked fine, except that none of my changes to raw settings were remembered. By "raw settings" I mean when you go into the raw convertor and tweak the white balance, brightness, contrast, exposure, etc, then hit Alt+Update to store it. All that was lost. Any idea how to get it back?

When you alter or change a Raw photo in PS, a file is created to record the changes. This is an XMP file. When you upgraded your computer, you probably did not move the XMP files. They have the same name as the photograph. Check the original directory and move these files.

Hmm, there are no XMP files there or anywhere (did a search of the whole disk). There is something under application settings, adobe, "camera raw" called 'Database' (no extension). I wonder if I could copy that over, although I hope it doesn't mess up anything (moving from version 4.0 to 5.0, and I've already added some new files to the catalog in version 5.0).

XMP files by default are set to 'not visible' so you do not see all the 'extra' files whenever you look in the directory so until you set all files visible you will not see them.

I do have my folders to see hidden files. I'm a programmer so anything hidden irritates me. Nothing there. Are they files with the extension .xmp?
