Which is the better camera? I have a Nikon D70, but at a recent fashion event I noticed all the other photographers were shooting with Cannon EOS. Is there that much of a difference? Is Cannon a better camera for fashion photography? |

One is not really any better than the other.
I thought it was great that Steve McCurry uses a Nikon. Just depends on what you like. Some companies get money and equipment from these companies (Nikon and Canon) to use their stuff. So get what you want, perception is not everything. |

The 'best' camera is the one you feel most comfortable working with. Quality of Nikon or Canon is not at question as they are both good manufacturers. Handle the cameras to see which feels most comfortable. For example I don't like small cameras. My wife has a Pentax MX50 35mm and I use a Canon EOS50e. She finds the Canon too big and heavy and I think the Pentax is too small and light !! |

Both companies make excellent products, and everyone has their opinion on which THEY prefer. Minor things are different on each, one might have a slightly lower ISO available, while the other might have a slightly higher flash sync, but in the end, they both accomplish pretty much the same thing, have the same functions, and work in the same way. And lastly, whichever one you likely have a failrly large investment in lenses/accessories is always a good choice... LOL |

From what I hear, Nikon camera's dont last as long as the Canon's. I had mine for 4 months and took really good care of it before something went wrong internally. Personally, I am going to purchase a Canon over the next few weeks. |

Go visit some pro Canon forums, they've been complaining of this very thing for a long time. Rumors are just that, rumors. And one persons opinion, over the internet, can be turned into hard facts without any real substance. I've never seen or heard anything to convince me that one is substantially better than the other. I went with Nikon because of how it felt, the ergonomics were nice and so was the price. I think that's the best way to decide. |

Both are good cameras. Nikons are known for their rugged construction, especially the Pro models.
I have both Nikon and Canon. It really comes down to a personal preference and what feels right in your hand. |

Cheap cameras are just that, if you buy the low end from any brand your not buying the best made camera you can get (this includes digital slr's). My Canon A-1 from the mid 70's is still going strong and my Nikon F4s from the mid 80's is still going strong (last checkup is was over 150,000 shutter fires). Neither brand is better over the other so take your pick. Go to a camera store and hold each model you’re interested in, see how it feels in your hand. Are the buttons easily reached? Can you see everything you want to in the viewfinder? |

I have owned nikon cameras for over 30 years and the only one that broke was the one I dropped.

He has some good things to say.
I also owned several cameras shops for 23 years and never saw a trend of amount of repairs on one brand over another. Over the years there were models that had problems but not a brand in general. |

A bit like a PC vs Mac debate, this is..
I OBVIOUSLY chose best with Nikon and MAc..
;)
But really, I got the D70 because of how it fitted in my hands (I like larger cams) because the DX lens is better than the one that came bundled with the Digital Rebel, because I liked the back of the camea and how the buttons were positioned, etc..
As you can see, exept for the lens argument, it's all about me and how I prefer things to be. So don't worry too much about Nikon vs Canon.
You got the best one of the 2 already anyways..

There is little to choose in regards to quality with either the Nikon or Canon in regards to quality.
Nikon has made a dedicated effort not to obsolete older cameras and lenses. If this is important to you, then choose Nikon.

and if its REALLY important to you, you need a Pentax ;)
all the above are good points, there is no absolute best camera in the world, but there is a best camera for you. Decide what you want, in a camera, find ones which have those features, try them out if you can and pick the one that feels best. |
