Just look at any of the other 10 threads or so started on the same subject within the past 60 days.

Read the comparison between the d70 and rebel xt and then compare the d70 to d70s:

The D70s is a newer version but really only adds a few features such as a bigger display and port for a cable release. The menus are different but they are available to the D70 with a firmware upgrade. Andrew has provided an excellent link which has a table with the D70, D70s and D50. Compare the features and you'll see the 70 and 70s are almost the exact same.

The D70 and D70s are basically the same for the purposes of the posts here. As mentioned, the differences are not huge and the camera spec is basically the same. Again, for the posts you see here.......

The issue is that this question has come up many times. With each and every version the results are the same.

"The cameras are essentially the same and the choice between them usually comes down to a persoanl preference." Bottom line, they are both excellent cameras and you can't go wrong with either.

Here are a few links I found by doing a search in the SLR forum:

http://www.phototakers.com/forum/ftopic36071.html?highlight=d70+350
http://www.phototakers.com/forum/ftopic36751.html?highlight=dslr

http://www.phototakers.com/forum/ftopic33045.html?highlight=dslr
http://www.phototakers.com/forum/ftopic30180.html&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15

It is not that we are trying to avoid the question, or that we feel it is a stupid question in any way..... it's just that the discussion has occurred so many tmies that going through it again is somewhat silly. Check out the links and you'll get some info.

Ultimately though, the cameras are basically equal and you'll get great photos form either.

My suggestion is that you ask about specific features you may have doubts about and ask about it. For example, "What are AF-S Nikon lenses and how will they help me?" or "What's flash sync?".......

awesome luisv thanks for the info :) no one ever says anything about the difference in megapixals buts doesnt it make a differance when editing say if you wanna crop the picture or you see something that you would like to zoom in on? i am planing on buying the XT but onl because everyone and every review i read says there pretty much the same camera but one has the 8.0 magepixels. anyways thanks again for the info guys even if i made a post that was the same as the other ones sorry :( (found a link that talked about the megapixals)

For most purposes the difference in megapixels is negligible, but if you're cropping to 8x10 aspect ratio it may be a big deal. If you crop out 25% of the pixels, instead of talking about 8 versus 6 megapixels we're now talking about 6 versus 4.5 megapixels. Now I have a 300D, and I routinely make beautiful 8x10s with its 6 megapixels, so I think it's more in the 16x20 range of enlargements where you'll really see a difference. The difference in megapixels is one out of many factors, but shouldn't seal the deal unless you want big enlargments. The ISO difference seals the deal for me, though.

Well it's the other way around -- the higher ISOs (400, 800, 1600) are what allow you to shoot without flash, and both cameras are equivalent in that regard. The low ISO allows you to shoot with a wide aperture in bright conditions so that you have a shallow depth of field, and it allows you to take longer exposures without overexposing as well. Some cameras, like the Kodak DSC-Pro go down to an ISO of 6, and frankly the Canon should go down to 50 or 20. So the low ISO of 100 won't help you with flash-free photography, but it will help you with long exposures and shallow depth of field.

That aside, coming from a Canon lover, the XT is a great camera and you'll love it. The D70s is as well. You won't go wrong either way.

Pick the two camera's up and try em out in the store..

The quality in the D70s over the xt was what sealed the deal for me.
