2150 with my D70 since mid November. How long will it last? Ahahah! I'm going to test Nikon's 2 year warranty.

Does anyone know the projected life span of the D70's shutter?

Nikon rate the D70 at 40k cycles. Go over to DPReview, there are a few people who have reached this (in a very short time too), and some of them have had not problems, others have had their shutters die.

Hammer it to death during the warranty period, don't want it failing 3 months after!

I don't know if this is a legit concern with digitals or not, but wouldn't the image sensor start to, well, break down over time? My expereince with light sensitive electronics has indicated that, but that might be just old technology.

I've read that the Canon prosumer DSLRs (10/20D, 300D), are rated at 100k-200k shutter cycles, so, I would think the D70 is similar. 40K does seem kind of low, doesn't it?

I'm at 8354.

Well a friend of mine (who works at a pro shop) says his 10D is nearing 40K & he figures he'll replace it around 50... He said that's all they're good for.

How much does it cost to replace it when it's not under warranty any more? Just wondering if I should speed up my shooting :) I'm at around 1800.

Knowing Nikon it probably would be cheaper to just buy a new D70 if you need the shutter replaced out of warranty.

Yeah, that's something I've wondered about too. Do you eventually start to lose pixels, or suffer a complete CCD or CMOS meltdown?

First sign of ccd troubles would be stuck pixels.... I would think that'd be the first sign... perhaps some banding of some sort? Who knows.

I think ChrisL is in the right ballpark 100k+. I am on my second D70 body and love them. I didn't wear out the first one, it had a few minor problems so I sent it back to Nikon for repair. I then had a nice conversation with their service manager and Voila! a new body was waiting for me at my local dealer. It also helps to have a good working relationship with your local dealer, they will be willing to go to bat for you if this sort of thing occurs. I hope something else goes wrong with this body in about a year from now. <G> Cheers!

Sorry if I have to bring this topic back to life, but here is my question?

Does anybody (D70 user) exceeded the 50k mark on their camera?

How about the D200? I've heard that the lifespan of the shutter is aroung 150 to 200k and they've tested it to 100k but it seems I cannot find the site that did a test (probably the Nikon Digital Web site) but its not there anymore....

I'm guessing I've got about 30,000 actuations on my D70, but don't know for sure. If anyone can tell me how to find out, that'd be cool. I used to have the Opanda thingy which worked on the PC, but I have all my photos on the Mac now. I suppose I could drag one to my PC and check it out, but it would be nice to know how to get this info on a Mac. I though Adobe Bridge might be able to do that, but it doesn't appear so.

I've no idea how to check my actuations on my 300D. I'm just going by the image numbering system, which puts me at around 7000. Odds are I'll get a new camera before I wear this one out, but it would be nice to know how close I am.

Hey Paul Here is the link Opanda IExif for you, Enjoy!!! that program will have a shutter Release Number on the bottom of the window telling you how many shot your Camera has taken....

Rasputin I know there is a shorcut on the Mac on how to see it (Exif) but I'm not sure how since I don't have a Mac.
Your best bet is to get the latest picture and look into on your PC =)
