Ive found a few good deals on Quantaray lenses. Mainly a 70-210mm f/4.5-5.6 High Speed AF. But from my expierience with car modification, a good deal might be just a cheap product. I don't want to cheap out on anything, but I am 'balling on a budget' so to say. So is quantaray a decent company or should I hold out for something else?
BTW, I have a Nikon D50 |

Quanarays are not the best lenses, but they're not bad for the money. That said, if you can afford the extra scratch, I'd suggest ponying up for the better lenses. I used to have one of these - the construction is quite cheap feeling, but the lens itself was serviceable (if a bit soft). These lenses are essentially rebadged lens sold by Ritz camera (aka a store brand). Mostly, these are Sigma lenses, although there may be an occassional Tonika or Tamron thrown in.
Here's a review on various Quantaray lenses: http://photosig.pcphotoreview.com/mfr/quantaray/MCL_9383CRX.ASPX

They are like sigma stated Ritz Camera house brand lenes. There are decent but they are no comparison to Nikkor or Cannon L glass. They will serve the purpose, i wouldnt only use one if it was my last resort. If you dont have good glass then you see it in the picture no matter what body you have. |

for the money the are ok .... even kinda good but really if your into photography don't waste your time. I had one. the pictures were ok but not great. the focus was painfully slow.
and here is the kicker. if you use it a little its ok but if you use it alot it will break.
you can expect about 1000-5000 shots before it dies. i got about 3000 shots.
on mine the aperture locked up it was stuck at f/16.
if you want a cheep lens go with sigma or tamron.
the beat lenses are Canon or Nikon or if you have big big bucks lica is the best but then you have to use there cameras.
these day i only buy Canon L series lenses. once you use one for any amount of time you will never want anything else. |
