If you've got Maxxum lenses and you're looking to go digital, then the 7d will not disappoint. If it had a 8mp sensor, it'd be trumping both Canon and Nikon in the consumer department. (Although trumping this far in the game is probably too little too late). It's pricey though, and who knows, KM might actually listen to their customers and come out with a 5d later, or maybe even a 9d. Myself, I'm waiting for the price to come down and/or to see if they come out with another model or two. Not holding my breath though.
There's a good review of it here:

There's also new firmware for it that addreses a few issues mentioned in there. |

The only problem is learning all the new buttons and settings. *g Unfortunately, the instruction manual isn't the greatest so a lot of the learning is basic info and then trial and error. I was looking for a KM forum when I happened across this site.
That said, I'm very happy with the camera. I had several lens with my Maxxum 7 (which is a terrific film camera) that are interchangeable so that was definitely a contributing factor in my selecting the 7D. My happiness with the 7 was also a consideration.
I love the ability to program 3 modes of your choosing. With the slightest twist of a dial I go from shooting RAW to RAW/JPG to JPG.
I do web design and digital art work so my subject matter is eclectic, however my emphasis is landscape.
It is a lot of money, for sure, however prices are already starting to come down. I bought it immediately when it came out as I knew I wanted it and no one was dealing even a dollar off the price. Just recently I saw it advertised at $400 less than I paid 3 months ago. |
