This is looking like its the best editing and workflow program available for pc's. Its very similar to aperture, which I like, but I will never own a mac computer. So Lightroom fits the bill just fine. |

Just curious why you will never own a MAC. I do not ever hear negatives about them and I am seriously considering the purchase of one, so any insight you can offer is appreciated. |

Personally I would never get a mac because I'm comfortable with PCs, I know them well, I do a little PC gaming, and Macs seem horribly overpriced to me. |

as stated before, im comfortable with my pcs, they are overpriced, The OSX I hate, windows is much easier to use, my 8 year old flys thru windows now editing his photos and what not. Also, My work programs are for windows and PC ONLY, they do not work on MAC running windows. But I just dont by into the MAC hype, they are more style over substance. |

I swore off macs for a long time until I was FORCED to use one as my work computer. It took ALOT of getting used to, mainly because I didn't want to get used to it.
One year later, I bought my first mac. I was 100% converted and will NEVER go back to pc again. I have also fully converted a few other non-believers as well.
Expensive?... maybe so.
Worth it? every last penny!! |

Adobe are doing a special deal at the moment with $100 off until end of march (?) I think it's about $199 with discount, but as I'm british it is about £130 ;) |

Oh good... The makings of another pc v. mac debate.
I've spent some time with Lightroom and I have to say, I just don't get the enthusiasm I've seen for it. I mean, it's "neat" and all, but it offers me virtually nothing I don't already have.
So ratings wise, it gets a mild shrug from me. |

In retrospect I should have PM'd Kojack about this, but to imply an attempt to start a debate, well coming from you is somehow not a surprise. I should have known. |

I don't know what you meant by your post, nor why you imagine that my post was referring to you individually, nor why you believe that you know me well enough to make assumptions as to my intentions.
It may have escaped your notice but most of the posts in the thread are about mac v. pc and not about Adobe Lightroom - the topic of the thread. That is what my comment was about - not you. The rest of my post was actually on topic.
Sorry you misunderstood. |

And as Lightroom is available for both PC & Mac - can we leave the whole debate somewhere else ;)
Anyway, I find it a very useful workflow program, useful if nothing else for it's excellent RAW file conversion. |

I hate to raise a dead topic, but what are some of the differences between aperture/lightroom and PS. If I have CS2 now, why should I get either of these programs?
Or are they more "friendly" but if I know my way through PS no prob I wouldnt notice much an improvement. |

Cid,
There isn't enough time to talk about all the things that Lightroom can do in RAW processing that CS2 can't. Sorting, managing multiple versions of photos, expanded raw processing...and on and on. I've been using this product since Beta3 and absolutely love it. One of my favorite things is the ability to adjust white balance in JPG and Tiff files.
I'd suggest downloading the trial from Abobe and try it out for a few days. Adobe is always really good about having 30 day trials to let you see if their product will be useful to you.

Lightroom ROCKS!!! plain and simple. It doesn't replace photoshop, because it doesn't spot edit. For a bulk editor, nothing beats it.
The 30 day trial is the way to go. |
