I will soon be purchasing a large zoom lens with a built in stabilizer, and I was just looking for some advice between the two.
Sigma 80-400mm OS Vs. Nikon Nikkor 80-400 VR
The Sigma 80-400mm OS lens is usually about $1000 and the Nikkor 80-400VR is between around $1300. I guess my main question is; Is the Nikkor that much better that it is worth the extra $300?
I’ve had good results with my Sigma 18-125mm and similarly with my Nikon brand lenses. If anyone has direct experience with either 80-400mm lens that would be greatly appreciated.
So what do you guys/girls think?
Thanks a lot
Alex
P.S Ill have another Sigma Vs Nikkor for you later :-D |

I use the Nikon 80-400vr at work on either a d1h or d1x, and it is a really great lens. We get amazing pics from it at long distances. A little heavy, but nothing major at all.
I've never used that particular sigma lens before, but have used smaller ones at home for personal use. They weren't bad lenses, but from what I've been told in the past, the Nikon is a better lens. |

I have not see or tried the Sigma but I do have the Nikkor 80-400mm VR and it is an excellent lens. I am very happy with it and do not regret spending the extra for it.
I guess you would have to go to a shop that has both and try them out to see if you notice a difference. You may not but I know you wouldn't regret buying the Nikkor. |
