I have been dreaming of getting a 50 mm lense for my E500 but when I called B&H they said that olympus only makes a 50 mm 2.0. I am afraid that it won't let in enough light. I am really looking for a 1.8 or even better, 1.4. Does anyone know if they make these. I want to use it for portrait purposes. Thanks. |

The fastest ZD is the 50/2.0 It is a wonderful lens, and I use it for portraits quite a bit. I don't think you'll have any complaints about the aperture. It does tend to hunt occassionally - especially in low light and shooting subjects at any distance.
If you really have your heart set on a faster lens, you can use an adapter and manual focus to mount just about any lens. Personally, the ZD 50 is such a great lens I don't see the point - especially if it's only to go to a 1.8.
Your only other option would be the Sigma 30/1.4 - but it is still very hard to get your hands on one at this point. And, for portraits I think the focal length is a little short... |

Although I do not have it nor have I used it, people rave about the ZD is the 50/2.0 for shooting portraits. I know quite a few persons shooting with these and see really nice results.
As I have the 14-54mm and 11-22mm I decided against spending the money for the 50mm/2.0. Besides a fellow has to have something to dream about. ;-)
I did get a 35mm 3.5 macro and it is a good lense, though not as fast it was cheaper. I picked it up used for 80.00 |

thanks for the input. I have thought about getting used (if I could find one) but someone has told me that if they get knocked about they can lose sharpness, so I will probably buy new. But not right now, a gal has to have something to dream about!!!
Thanks,
