I'd like to introduce to you Kirsty. Kirsty very kindly said that she would be my model for this assignment. The photo was Kirstys choice, she liked it better than the colour version. So here you go. Photograph was taken in a empty classroom.

Olympus SP-500UZ
ISO 100 1/13 f3.5

The lighting is good. The B & W conversion is not so good. The image lacks contrast. There is no clean white nor is there a good clean white.

I think that all you need to make this a good image is to get a really good conversion.

I think that a higher point of view would help too. Shooting at the subject's eye level will mean that you are not looking up her nostrils and under her neck. It makes the eyes seem larger and more expressive.

Post a better conversion.

If you don't know how, then go to the appropriate forum here at Phototakers and ask for help. I'm a film guy and I cannot be of help in that regard.

This is a very appealing subject. Invite her back for some follow up shots.

I'll give it another go and post as soon as I can. Looks like I'm going to have to do employ a little bribe, we all know girls don't like their photo's taken.

Or they use the session as an excuse to seduce you...

Packard, how did you find us out? Shhh. It's not that we don't like our picture taken it's that we're never satisfied with the outcome. :)

Take care,
Brindie

Not satisfied with the outcome of the photos or the seduction?

LOL! I'd have to say that if there was any seduction involved I'd come out hands down but as far as having my picture taken..why do you think I'm stuck with the horrible one I have as my avatar? I do better behind the camera than I do in front of it and that's pretty much what most women think. Okay, so not all of us are photographers and think of things in that aspect but all of the ones here are (or try to be), and I bet 95% of us hate our picture taken just because we can't be in control of the outcome. ;)

Take care,
Brindie
