Greetings everyone,
Here are my 2 questions.
Firstly, is there a limit on the number of pictures the camera can take from a sensor point of view and secondly, at what speed does the camera write to the memory card. Just searching the internet but cannot find the answer yet today.
Thanks, |

Your shutter should last 50 to 100K before replacement while the sensor will last a lifetime. Of course, as with any manufactured device, the sensor or shutter could fail during the first activation.
I do not know about the write speed but I bet it is faster than that of my 10D or 20D. |

Write speed can be found in DPR's review of the camera.

I'm not sure what the write speed is in bits / second, but with either a sandisk extreme 1GB or lexar 2GB (can't remember the model, but I think it says 133x on it) I can shoot 65 to 75 shots in high speed mode with JPEG large before the buffer fills up on my older digital rebel XT. After that it's about 1 shot per second until I pause and wait 5 seconds or so for the buffer to get written. I'd suspect the XTi would give similar or better performance. In short, you're not going to complain unless you're shooting 20 minute long 3 fps movies with the thing.
Your shutter will eventually wear out, but this is probably after 50,000 pictures or more. I don't think canon actually published specifications for the XTi's shutter (they do it for their high end pro bodies) but that's the estimate I've heard - 50K. |

The XTi shoots bursts of continous images differently than the XT does. The XT is a continous collection of images until the buffer is full, the XTi starts the same but then will go to a few, pause then a few more, pause until the buffer fills.
One reason I stopped using the XTi for wildlife, the pauses are random and the following bursts can be 2,3 or 5 images then a pause and going again. Disoncerting. It probably collects as many images as the XT does (at a larger file size) but not in an even manner. |

Thanks Brad, Walter
I have kinda gone a little snap happy since I got the camera last November and have taken about 4K of pics. Things have slowed down quite considerably the last month, about 100 pics.
Some of the pics were of my daughter's swim competition where I would take about 300 pics over a weekend. |

Weird. Yeah, the XT just fires at 3fps until the buffer is full and then one shot every time it gets enough buffer room to take one (typically about 1 shot per second). |
