Can anyone advise if this filter is suitable for use with digital cameras (Fuji S2/3) & can it be used with normal (unfiltered) studio strobes and camera mounted flashguns.

The (Kodak) 18A filter blocks most visible light and passes UV. It will also pass some IR light. Are you aiming for a specific effect? Just curious as to what your application is. I can also tell you that the S2 and S3 do have some IR and UV sensitivity so, in theory, it should be able to produce some type of image. I have not tried using the 18A on my S2 or S3. The filters are also a bit pricey. I hope that helps.

I do quite a bit of legal (personal injury) work, I am currently shooting on digital (Fuji S2) and I want a set up which will enable me to photograph old injuries (faded bruising etc.)

Fuji just released a UV\IR version of the S3 with it's aim at the forensic and scientific market. I used to use Kodak's High Speed IR film (HIE) for similar applications. As I mentioned above, the 18A can be a bit expensive so running tests may cost you a few bucks. You might be able to use a tungsten source for lighting but I might recommend finding a UV specific source for tests. I had an 18A at one point in time but can't imagine where I might have put it. If I can dig it up I can certainly make some tests. You're on the right track as far as technique goes. You can definitely pick up prior physical injuries, bruising and tissue damage with UV and IR techniques. The main question here would be the UV sensitivity of the S2 or S3 which I have only tested on the IR end with a Hoya R72 filter. I hope this has been of some help to you. By all means let me know how you make out.
